St. Louis Winter Fun
There’s no sugarcoating it, winter in the Midwest can be bleak. It’s cold. It’s dreary. It gets dark so freaking early. But there’s a joy to these slow months of winter if you know where to look.
From indoor play spots to the best winter festivals, here’s a few things to help you get out of the house and beat those winter blues.
WINTER FESTIVALS
St. Louis knows how to throw a festival. They’re one of the best ways to explore a new part of our community, meet knew people and get out of the house. Here’s a few great festivals to put on your calendar.
Loop Ice Carnival: On January 25th, head to the Delmar Loop to embrace the cold. Watch live ice carving, fire dancers, meet Louie of the St. Louis Blues and walk one of the best streets in the Midwest. A free event.
Taste of Soulard: Get a sample of some of the best food in Soulard at one of the many Mardi Gras events. The family friendly event allows you to pick and choose from a variety of vendors and restaurants. It’s free to walk around, for $35 get a booklet good for one drink and six food sample. February 22 and 23.
Purina Pet Parade: Grab your pet and head to Soulard for one of the best free family friendly Mardi Gras events. The Purina Pet Parade takes place February 23. Don’t miss the wiener dog derby!
Mardi Gras Grand Parade: It’s the grand finale of Mardi Gras season and one of the country’s biggest celebrations. Bundle up, grab a hurricane and catch some beads. The parade kicks off at 11:00 on March 1.
INDOOR PLAY PLACES
Keep the kids entertained and parents from going stir crazy at one of St. Louis several indoor play places.
St. Louis County Libraries: Check out Daniel Boone, Florissant and Clark branches for FREE indoor fun.
COZY SPOTS
On cold winter nights sometimes it’s tough to leave the couch, but if you want to get out and still cozy up, here are some great cozy spots to sip something delicous.
Black Mountain Wine House: Grab a cheeseboard and a bottle of wine and cozy up next to the fire place at this Central West End spot.
Civil Life Brewery: On Sundays, it’s all about soup at Civil Life. They have a large selection of soups to pair with their famous beers.
Fox and Hounds Tavern: Stepping into this Tavern makes you feel like you’ve hopped the pond over to London.
Mud House: A cozy coffee shop on Cherokee Street with a delicious menu of breakfast and brunch items.
Blueprint Coffee: The location on Washington in Midtown feels like you’re sipping coffee in a beautiful library.
Westport 360: The wall fire place and the outdoor fire spots exude cozy vibes for a winter time night out.
