Let's be honest. Is there anything better than perfectly cooked, freshly made pasta? It's just dreamy. And it was as good as expected at the newly opened Randolfi's in the Loop. Randolfi's is the newest creation of chef Mike Randolph. I was kicking myself when I heard he would be closing The Good Pie because it was on my list and I never made it there. But I shouldn't have worried because the Neapolitan pizzas are still churching out of a gorgeous blue tiled oven (forgot to snap a picture…) but now there is that beautiful pasta as well.
The space is just the right size, with a beautiful marble bar and open kitchen. Growing up down the street, it's funny to think how many weekend nights I spent searching for a VHS in the Blockbuster that used to be in the same space. I mean I love Netflix, but I kind of miss Blockbuster, am I alone in that feeling?
We started with the oven-roasted cauliflower and house salad. The salad had a fantastic goat cheesy vinaigrette on it. And I am in such a cauliflower kick right now. I feel like it's such an "in" vegetable and I am totally ok with that.
I went with my mom and sisters and we got a few of the pastas and a pizza to get a little taste of everything. I had the meatball. The meatball was a hefty size and perfectly juicy. The spaghetti was thick and al dente. I think it might have been one entire noodle! One sister got the white bolognese which had a lovely egg yolk that created a creamy bowl of deliciousness. My other sister got the butternut squash. And let me just say how excited I am that I had a little butternut squash from my garden because the parmesan and the lightly charred butternut squash in that pasta is getting recreated this week in my kitchen. The portions are deceivingly big. We went with the larger size at the suggestion of our waitress but I would say with starters, we would have been better off going with the smaller size. There was no time for photos of the margarita pizza before my mom dug right in, but the crust is everything you want from a Neapolitan pizza.
Growing up in U City, the Loop always holds a special place in my heart. So much has come and gone over the years and I would say this is a fantastic addition to Delmar. Now I just need to get myself next door to try out Randolph's Publico….
