No, I'm not talking about the basketball kind of March Madness (stopped caring about that when my Trojans lost a few rounds ago...) but instead the madness that was this month! It was filled with travel, fun in St. Louis and a whirlwind at work.
The month started with a literal whirlwind, a tornado touched down about two hours outside of St. Louis, destroying a town and killing one. Those are the toughest but also most rewarding days as a reporter. Rewarding in that you get to see first hand the resiliency of a community, You can watch what I mean in this story.
Work in general was crazy this month simply because so many people were on vacation and we're slightly short staffed. You can't not have news in the TV business so that meant some long hours, extra days of work and sometimes turning out extra stories. I love my job so I'm happy to help out to ensure we're providing the best coverage of St. Louis for our viewers. But I'm human and that definitely can take it's toll. Thankfully I had two trips planned this month so those were wonderful breaks from the business at KMOV.
First we went to Miami (working on a longer post about the trip!). I hadn't been since I was a kid and it was wonderful to see the city with my boyfriend who lived there after college. We ate all of the tacos, margaritas and beer we could find. It was wonderful. And then I just returned back from Madrid this week. Visiting my sister was the perfect way to cap off this month. It was a quick trip, only four days actually in Spain, but I got a CRAZY good deal, so I said why not?! Posts on Madrid and my philosophy on travel coming in the next few weeks!
I am excited for April to get here, it means another weekend getaway (this time to Lake Tahoe!) and spring in St. Louis! Except for the allergy nightmare, I love spring in St. Louis. The flowers are blooming, the return of patio drinking and of course Cardinals baseball! Opening Day is just around the corner!
What are you looking forward to as we April gets underway this weekend?
